Hometown favorite Brandon Phillips has been traded to the Angels for minor league catcher Tony Sanchez. Phillips played at Redan High School in Stone Mountain and was named the 1999 Metro Atlanta High School Player of the Year by the Braves 400 Fan Club. The Braves acquired him this season after a fine 11-year career with Cincinnati, including three All-Star appearances. He responded by hitting a solid .291 with 11 homers and doing an exceptional job making the move to third base. Just two days ago Phillips collected his 2,000th career hit.
Dat Dude brought experience, grit, and enthusiasm to the Braves, delivered with the biggest smile around. He will definitely contribute to the Angels quest for a playoff berth. Good luck, Brandon. We’ll miss you.
