This will be the Atlanta Braves final Spring Training at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex after 22 seasons. The team played its first game there on May 28, 1997, against the Cincinnati Reds, before the 9,500 seat stadium became its full-time Spring Training home in 1998. In the years that followed, Braves fans made the annual pilgrimage to Lake Buena Vista to see hopeful rookies and their favorite veterans prepare for the upcoming season.
Champion Stadium was a fun place to relax and catch the magic of a spring ballgame at Disney. Lots of great memories were made over the years. The Braves will play their last game at Champion Stadium against the Mets on March 23. The next day they are off to take on the Rays at the brand new CoolToday Park in North Port for its inaugural game. Good luck to the Braves in their future Spring Training home!
