For 54 consecutive years the Atlanta 400 Baseball Fan Club has hosted the Eddie Glennon Gameboree, a gala annual winter banquet, in large hotel banquet rooms but Covid-19 necessitates changes this year. The Club will keep its consecutive Gameboree streak alive by hosting the 55th annual gala as a virtual event on Wednesday evening, January 20th, at 7:00 PM.
The Gameboree theme is “2020: A Season Like No Other.” Braves announcer Chip Caray and baseball writer David O’Brien will speak on broadcasting and media challenges and other oddities from the 2020 season.
Awards include Braves Player of the Year Freddie Freeman, Braves Pitcher of the Year Max Fried, and Braves Rookie of the Year Ian Anderson.
We will present $1,500 Phil Niekro College Scholarships to the baseball programs at Gordon State College in Barnesville and the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. Both head baseball coaches will attend.
Former closer Mark Wohlers will accept the 2021 Luke Appling Nostalgia. The Sarge, Gary Matthews, will accept the 2020 Luke Appling Award from last January when he was unable to attend.
The Ivan Allen, Jr. Mr. Baseball Award recipient will be announced at the close of the program.
Being a virtual event you can plan your own food and favorite beverages in front of your personal screen while enjoying this 90-minute celebration of Braves baseball.
Professional vocalist Gwen Hughes will provide a musical tribute to Phil Niekro and Bill Bartholomay, two members of the Braves family that we lost this past year.
There is no cost to 400 Fan Club members for the 2021 Gameboree. Advance registration is required to receive the Zoom link and a pdf Gameboree souvenir program suitable for printing. The link and printable souvenir program will be emailed on January 18, two days prior to the event. Click here to view the 2021 Gameboree souvenir program. Sorry, registration for this event has closed.
